That's the way it is now. People need to log in to read the board. That way other members can also see who is still around and reading the board.

You know, that might actually hurt the board, and could be a HUGE part of the problem. How the heck are we going to attract new people if they can't even see the board? Lurkers are a major part of most boards, and I would think Glitz would want them. You might want to consider opening it up to anybody viewing the general board. It might help in the absolutely ridiculous long gaps in posts.

Seconded. Goodness knows why a board already struggling to maintain its viewership would want to exclude prospective new readers.
Don't want to sound boring and out-dated, but the fact remains, the old board, as basic as it was, was vibrant, exciting and fast-paced. GNet as it stands is in dire need of a marketing boost.

I think the scene was more vibrant then. Or, well, discussions of Pretty Boy Floyd and Heart Throb Mob were atleast not quite to the flogging a dead horse point completely. Good lord, remember how many PBF posts there were?

For what it's worth I agree with you guys. The board should be open.

Of this board or the old one? From this board. Even posing a comment that you would figure would get a reply from them, causes no replies again. I don't buy it that this place is dead due to Facebook and Myspace, or Twitter. I belong to many groups that I just can't possibly keep up with all of the conversations. I believe something else has hurt the site, and if this place has been locked down into a "members only" style thing, then that could be a HUGE part of the problem. Many sites do that, but they never lock out the main section of the site. They lock down certain "premium" sections that are available to the people who sign on. I also find it interesting that there are two areas of this site: the board here and the main site. How often has anybody seen the "reviewers" actually posting on the boards. Hell, I've made comments about the reviews, and never saw a rebuttle from the writer. How odd is that? I don't even think the writers here bother with this section.

carl -- I share all your sentiments. Open login or not, we need to do something to boost appeal -- it's a bit boring when there's the same 5/6 people posting. It's not like the glam/sleaze scene is dead -- in fact, it's more pro-active than ever, just not selling as many records nowadays. I'm currently talking to Davy Vain about a Vain doc, which will, of course, encompass the history or scene in general. I always liked your underground radio show podcast idea. Maybe we could incorporate that in some way -- i.e. GNet Radio. All wannabe DJs record, say, 15/20 mins worth of home-produced radio show (gossip, chit-chat, tour news, gig reviews music etc.) per week, then it's all compiled to produce a weekly 2/3 hour radio podcast we can download and enjoy. I will happily help exec produce/project manage it. There are licence issues surrounding the music, but I'm sure none of the featured glam bands will oppose the use of their music. Looking forward to hearing feedback. Daz.

That's actually a good idea. I would be willing to figure out a way of relaunching the podcast thing, and with Skype we could easily to a show with a host of people from around the world.

Great idea Darren! I know I'd listen to that once a week. Maybe we should do it with a certain number of songs instead of a time limit to the show? And maybe 1 poster should do a whole show every week?
I know at least for me if I sit down and do something like that, which I did for Metal Express Radio once, the planning and recording of it will take a bit of time anyway and then I'd be much more interested to play say 20 songs over 2 hours, than I would be to go through that whole process for 3 songs and 15 minutes.
That would mean less compiling work afterwards as well.
VAiN docu? Can you say anything more about it yet? Like when the planned release will be (at least what year:-)? Do they have a lot of old stuff on video, except for the promos? ... you know, just anything a fan might be interested in.
