I still check in just to hear what Sandy has to say since we never see each other in person anymore. Yes that seems to happen as we get older eh....I haven't seen Glen and some of the other guys in quite some time as well. We'll have organize an old school gathering sometime.

This thread has gotten way depressing, so I'll liven it up with a riddle I've made myself.
Q: What would the King have said to the Boss?
A: So YOU got Mary pregnant.
Goodmorning from Dollywood!

Nah, I think it would still be a bit of a ghost town. FB and the like allows you to only deal with the people you wish, and they have to discuss the only topic that matters to many people: themselves. . Have you become disinterested in music? or. Pretty much, yes. I pretty much have to force myself to do anything with the 'zine at this point. I pretty much know exactly what happened...but I don't think anybody really wants to hear any "sob stories" or anything. But yeah, my interest in music, the 'zine, and all stuff of the sort is at an all-time low. The idea of doing reviews make me want to throw the fuck up.

But if you're fed up with it, you should just quit. When hobbies like that start feeling like work it's time to get a new hobby until you feel like doing it again.

As Chris Dania Down said, that is too bad Carl. You're a very talented writer, as I said to you before, you reminded me of the old Kerrang writers who were very descriptive in their reviews and actually made you want to read them. Instead of just glossing over looking for a yay or nay. But if you're not into it, then best give it a rest instead of forcing it. I get like that with music sometimes. It goes in waves. Then something like a show or whatever inspires me or peaks my interest again. If you feel like it, flip me an email.

Eh, I beg to differ on my actual abilities as a writer. It is also the in-depth review that hurt me. It's easy to do that with stuff you love, which is what it all started as. I made the HUGE mistake of losing site on what I wanted the 'zine to be. It didn't take long for it to happen, but it did. So it is still being done, but at my pace and slowly reverting back to what I had intended in the VERY beginning. Part of that change was implemented awhile ago on the My Space site.

I agree with Carl's self-opinion -- he was a terrible writer and is best giving it all up. Juz kidding. It's always difficult to remain motivated to do anything creative -- which would greatly benefit from a team -- when one's forced to do it alone. Still think the Sonic Ruin Radio idea could work. Maybe in short podcast snippets first then developing into something more magazine'y as more feature producers get on board. Could even work as a vodcast providing someone project managed the video content coming in from all areas. D.

Well, Sonic will be gaining a bit of help if it is to continue. I can say that is in the process of happening. I am kind of joining forces with another 'zine for a possible upcoming project that would make up issue 5. Issue 4 is all ready spoken for and is now facing another road block as I am awaiting material for it.

It's completely dead, that's what it is. Even I have almost stopped checking in.
A shame really it was fun in the old days, but that's the cycle of online boards I guess.

Well, I lost my job and have been unemployed for the past...shit...3 months now??? One would think that means I have shitloads of time on my hands, but it actually went the opposite direction. First and foremost I am back in college, so at first I was spending a lot of time with homework. I am only in 2 classes right now, but haven't been in school for 20 years and last time I was in college I bombed damn near everything, just barely getting by where I did. Pulling nothing but A's on every assignment and quiz this time though. But at first I needed to immerse myself in it to find my way. I also got picked up by my local paper to write some articles for them, so I am hoping that will start going my way and they will give me more. My first article should be out next week, I think. I am also putting stuff together for a few other newspapers. Then there is the standard stuff of now being a "stay at home Dad". Housework etc. But it is crazy how little time I have now. I also refuse to let myself do "fun stuff" during the day when I would normally have been watching TV. So no TV, movies, computer time, etc. I'm on Spring Break from school right now, that is my justification for farting on the 'net right now. But I do have cleaning to do...so I will be getting off soon. It has been crazy dead here. Let's get some chatter going again. Oh, for those who might ask, I am studying to be an elementary school teacher. I should have my associates in about a year and hope to get my license two years after that.

Thanks for the update Carl! Lost your job, that's no fun. Then again you didn't really enjoy yourself there, did you? Good to hear that things seem to be going well for you though!
I'm still in the pornstore, so nothing new there. Ronny Pøbel, a punk band I'm in, released our 3rd album in January and our weekends are mostly packed with gigs from the release and until mid of June. The few weekends I'm not playing with them I have rehearsals with Metal Pirates, which is a tribute band to German Heavy/Power metal act Running Wild... bet none of you guessed that? hahaha. I am Rock'n'Rolf..... or Rock'n'Dollf in that band, so I sing lead vocals and play rhythm guitar. Quite a stretch from what I am used to playing and I've had to practice, but it's all good. I don't have time for the Metal Pirates at all though. We are booked at a festival in Oslo on the 15th of May, but I already told the boys that I won't be able to do more gigs after that. They are all busy with other projects though and we knew from the start that it would be difficult to get time for it, so there are no hard feelings from anyone.
My own band, Suicide Bombers, are still in rehearsals and sounding better and better. I sing and play rhythmguitar there too. Have a steady young bassplayer, a great drummer and a flashy Englishman on lead guitar. We have quite a few songs down and I still have more songs demoed + writing new ones. We'll go in the studio in May to record a demo, but I doubt we'll let anyone hear it.
We are sticking to the plan of recording an album before we play live and we don't have any cash, so it will be a while until anyone hears anything from us, but the music is great! Would describe it as the more hard rock songs from Trashcan Darlings, meets a bit of Sunset Strip sleaze metal riffs. I desperately need a break from 4 chord power pop glam and the harder punk stuff I get done with Ronny anyway, so this is perfect. Apart from writing songs for Suicide Bombers I am writing for the next Ronny Pøbel album. Ronny does the lyrics and vocal melodies and I do most of the music. I demo up stuff at home and give him CDs and then he comes back with lyrics and melody for it. We try to release an album every January and have about 14 songs on an album, so there's lots of work to be done there too.
I might also be performing with Dave Kusworth again at the Peace & Love festival this year. Not sure yet if it will be just the two of us acoustic or with a full band, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for a band this time. Both Dave and I like to make noise.
I think that was pretty much the full update.

Correct you are Chris! I hated my job. But I was VERY good at my job. So good that I was paid very well to do my job when things were good. But that was the downfall. When things were going great, the company paid me well, when times got bad, they eventually sat back and said "why the fuck are we paying him THAT much!?!" Hahahahaha!!! So I was shown the door and that building closed on that day. The company still exists, but my office was shut down. They let three of us go and kept 5. All of the ones they kept had degrees, the three they let go did not. I saw a pattern there and said "fuck that...I'm tired of losing to the educated".
I'm lucky though, my wife is happy I am home all the time now and she is the main push for my schooling and for my chasing down the writing/journalist thing while in school. She makes good money as a nurse, is loved by her bosses, and really can only go up from where she is at. Well, until this new health care reform in my country ends up fucking everybody in the medical industry.
Sonic Ruin is almost a casualty though. My desire to do an actual print 'zine is pretty much gone since I can't justify spending that much anymore. But in the past few days I have decided that I will continue on, but I will be going down the path Darren told me to go down from the very beginning. It will do a lot more for everybody involved, and that is to offer it up as a free .pdf download. So I am heading back to the computer to finish up issue 4 and will post a link to it through the Sonic website.
That's awesome that you are soooo damn busy with tunes! I'm dying to hear the Bombers! Plus, if you do the Kusworth thing, I expect somebody to video it and post it on the 'net!!! Consider me jealous as fuck!
