Was wondering about the songtitle Sonic Reducer again today and thought I might as well post it here. The Dead Boys song is a punk rock classic that I love and have even recorded a cover of once, but I never got the title.
What the hell is a sonic reducer? ...A device to reduce sound?
Why would a Young, LOUD and Snotty punk band want that? What's the point? What Am I missing?
In my world loud is cooler so I'm wondering if there is a device, some history or anything that makes sense of the title.
If not it's one of the worlds dumbest and uncoolest songtitles ever.

I dunno Chris. Reading the lyrics it just seemed like the kid didn't fit in and all that mattered to him was listening to music. I guess hi-fi's back in 1977 were strange beasts!

He's using the sound (band) to reduce (destroy) everything around him.

He's using the sound (band) to reduce (destroy) everything around him. Ahhhh... Finally an explination that makes sense! Thanks Carl. In light of that I change my statement and regard it as a cool songtitle:-)
