Finally the Backstreet Girls video from 2003 is on youtube. This was never aired anywhere and it's the first time I see it, even if I remember a lot of talk about it when they shot it. Skinny Shotgun, former Trashcan Darlings drummer, is sitting in on the drums in this video. It's probably their best one. I love both video and song. Was that a Damien Doll cameo as a vampire around 0:54?

Hahaha... Not surprised you didn't like it Darren as I am sure it's not good for a technical standpoint. I think it was done by students, but what I do like about it is the story that goes well with the lyrics. It reminds me of a good old fashioned 80's video when music videos were still fun.
The supreme black pakistan line is hilarious. Having Petter doing the first part of the guitarsolo infront of the Castle is also pretty cool and well..... small details like Nosferatu and stuff like that.
Nope, I'm not in this video at all, but "Nosferatu" is a good friend of mine.

I didn't like it because it's smothered in so many clichés. Then again, is it so bad it's good?

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. For starters, the band look too old to use the 'We are simple naive folk who know no better' excuse. There's nothing original about the new Juliette Lewis video -- it's just a collection of tried and tested filming tricks (as opposed to BG's tired and tested tricks) -- but it still manages to be fresh, glamorous and exciting. Although having Lewis in it helps, of course. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0oN_lDJfT8D.

The band is old! They started in the early 80's and have been going all this time. A great band! The Juliette Lewis video is very good technically. All the clips look good and there's lots more energy in the band clips. Obviously done by experienced people and, like you said, it looks glamorous. Juliette Lewis is however a much bigger artist than the Backstreet Girls. She's got a good record deal where a video or two for each album is probably stated and she has a budget to do it. The Backstreet Girls also have a record lable, but not one that will pay for a video. Meaning they, like I did in TD, have to use students who basically make a video for free, because it's a matter of having a video or having no video at all. Videos are to promote records and records don't sell anymore + no one plays videos anymore either. You can put them on youtube, but then people will have to type in your band name, song or tags to find...... meaning you don't get a lot of exposure to new people anyway. What I thought was much better with the Backstreet Girls video than the Juliette Lewis video, however, was the story and the way some of the scenes are linked to the lyrics. Juliette had a good video that could be used for any number of her songs, or a Madonna song. The Backstreet Girls had one that linked with the lyrics of the song in the same fun way a lot of videos did in the 80's. Had the technical quality of that video been as good as the Juliette Lewis one, it could easily had been one of the coolest videos this decade IMO.

I've just seen a few more. They might be promos or they might be 'response' vids. I dunno. Who's making these things? There's bad ... and then there's ... this -- although I am becoming endeared to them now. LOL. In a kind of Tromaville way.
